Top 5 Reasons Why We Love Disney Channel Original Movie, Descendants

I'm pretty sure you have at least heard of this new Disney Channel Original Movie, Descendants. If you haven't, ask your kids and I'm 99% sure they know the main characters. Apparently, the next generation of villains are quite popular on YouTube!

We were invited to the exclusive preview screening of the Disney Channel Original Movie “Descendants” at Shang Cineplex in Shangri-La Plaza last week. I selflessly (along with many other moms) watched this movie that I knew my kiddo would enjoy. Turned out I enjoyed it as much she did! Descendants is the next big thing on Disney Channel. Yeah, I said it.

 My Princess Maia got her long-awaited, much-desired book.
It's actually good, it truly is. The first 50 who came and dressed up in their best Disney inspired outfit received the Descendants prequel novel: The Isle of the Lost. And I'm definitely going to check out this book.

Descendants will premiere on Sunday, 13 September on Disney Channel Southeast Asia. Although this movie has some evil and mean parts, it has so many wonderful things about it. Here are 5 reasons you're going to love it too;

1. The plot is quite interesting. It may be villains-inflected, but its story is thrillingly and matter-of-factly amazing. I thought it's a bit cheesy and somewhat predictable though.  Simply put, it’s a story about teeenage progeny of Disney's infamous villains.

A live-action movie that fuses castles with classrooms to create a contemporary, music-driven story about the challenges in living up to parental and peer expectations. The plot has potential for an adult to enjoy. Trust me, I did!

2. The story is set in the idyllic kingdom of Auradon where Prince Ben, the benevolent teenaged son of the King and Queen (Beast and Belle from "Beauty and the Beast"), is poised to take the throne. His first proclamation is to offer a chance at redemption to Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay, the trouble-making offspring of Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella de Vil and Jafar, who have been imprisoned on the forbidden Isle of the Lost. These villainous descendants are allowed into Auradon for the first time to attend prep school alongside the teenage progeny of Fairy Godmother, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Mulan.

3. The whole cast is pretty amazing. Starring Dove Cameron (Disney Channel’s Liv and Maddie), Cameron Boyce (Disney Channel’s Jessie), Booboo Stewart (Twilight, X-Men Days of Future Past) and Sofia Carson as the teenage sons and daughters of Disney's most infamous villains, it's a very photogenic bunch and each of them definitely shares the right kind of endearing weirdness and surprising acts. They're not bad. They're just born that way. And as far as I can figure, Kings and Queens may come and go, but villains and their lovable kids are forever.

The notable cast also includes Mitchell Hope (Prince Ben), Wendy Raquel Robinson (Cruella de Vil), and the Tony Award-winning Kristin Chenoweth (Maleficent).  Kristin absolutely rocked the role of Maleficent and she cracked me up a lot of times.

3.  The result of some genius-level and exciting music and performance are brought to you by  Kenny Ortega, the Emmy Award-winning director of "High School Musical" who directs, choreographs and executive-produces Disney's "Descendants." Surprisingly, I like the musical performances, as well as the hardcore dance numbers!

4. It does have some important messages that kids and teens should pick up such as empowering themes about self-confidence, finding the beauty within, freedom of choice, personal responsibility, teamwork, justice and empathy.

5. We love the super catchy songs and I was surprised when I heard Maia singing along. She knew all the songs and her favorite? Rotten to the Core! Complete with facial expression and hand actions. I know not everyone likes musicals but kids love it!

 I so love how these these sons and daughters of evil meet the children of goodness, check out the trailer below:

Overall, it's an amazing movie and I highly recommend it to Disney movie fans and parents who want a new movie to see with their kids! My favorite part? This. Prince Ben and Mal. So dreamy. :)

Have you seen it? If so, what did you think? If you haven't, let me know if you're planning to watch it soon.
