Hotel Review: Birthday Vacay at Ferra Hotel Boracay

And I'm officially 34.

Last Monday was my birthday (as well as my husband's birthday which is a day earlier) and we celebrated it by going to Boracay. It was a last minute decision though and I didn't know my husband booked our flight until he told me about it last week. April was the toughest time of our lives because I had a (very unexpected) miscarriage, and I guess he wanted to make me happy and make sure that we'd spend our birthdays together in our happy place. Thankfully, he made it possible even if we weren't too prepared.

Since it's the peak season, we knew it would be more crowded so we decided to stay at a quieter, uncrowded, nice newly-opened hotel, Ferra Hotel.

The small, charming neighborhood wherein this hotel stands is called Laketown, aptly named for its man-made lake, where we enjoyed some quiet time away from the island's buzz.

I love the modern-minimalist architecture and design, and my eyes were drawn to the intricately designed walls and ceilings. Indeed, this boutique hotel presents superb style and functionality.

At the reception, we were welcomed with these refreshing welcome drinks and warm smiles from the staff, that instantly made us feel very special.

We stayed at Room 106,  a spacious one bedroom loft where we enjoyed access to a kitchenette, sofa sleeper, toaster, and microwave oven.

The suite has white walls and wood accent theme, and amply fitted with essentials, such as a cable TV, DVD player, and mini-refrigerator.

They have 37 guestrooms that are categorized to Superior Room, Standard Room, Suite Room, One Bedroom Loft and Two Bedroom Loft. Each room is complete with essential amenities, such as an individually controlled air-conditioning unit, hot and cold shower, coffee and tea maker, hair dryer, rubber slippers, umbrellas and in-room safe.

Our bed was topped with a fluffy duvet. Sleeping in a well air-conditioned room, on a comfortable bed, and under a fluffy duvet really made us feel comfortable. I felt like I just want to copy paste myself into this comfy bed forever. :) Plus, it has an alarm clock. A must-have for me or else, I'd sleep here all day!

The bathroom has hot and cold shower, complete with face towels, robes, bath towels and foot towels. Complimentary toiletries include hand soap, lotion, body soap, shampoo, and two sets of toothbrush and toothpaste.

The facilities and services are also something to look forward to. We enjoyed free Wi-Fi Internet access in rooms and at the lobby and restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel.

My daughter really enjoyed the lap pool. It was so inviting that we had to take a dip (lots of it actually) to escape the Boracay heat.

Our cravings were satisfied at their specialty restaurant, Modern Asia by Chef Miner. Breakfast choices for the hotel guest includes; Filipino Feast, La Americano and different kinds of Continental Breakfast.

This is by far the best garlic beef tapa I've tried, with a well balanced sweetness and the right garlicky flavor that we Filipinos love. The meat was perfectly cooked, served with your choice of egg dish, and garlic fried rice. The meal also comes with your choice of brewed coffee, fruit juice or tea, and their fruit of the day.

I also love the Bacon & Cheese Overload. Overloaded with cheesy goodness, with its three cheese omelette, bacon and French toast. It was simply heavenly. My hubby and daughter seated next to me were oohing and aahing between bites. :)

They have shuttle service with uniformed driver accredited by the hotel for the safety and convenience of their guests. They also have airport transfer, and tours assistance.

For my birthday, I wanted to catch the sunset and  chill out at the roof-deck bar called The Ruf. Every hour spent here is a happy hour.  It was a fun and relaxing afternoon with my fam bam,

And surprisingly, I like the Sunset Daiquiri with a great view of the sunset, away from the crowds. The view was all ours.

Perfect view of the sunset. Of course, there is no one who deserves it more than my husband.  He works tirelessly in a very intense job that enables me to be at home with our daughter. So, he truly deserves the best seat in the house.

Other convenient hotel features you can freely access include room service, a designated smoking area, and service elevator.

The only downside for some people who are too lazy to walk is that this hotel is not located on the beachfront. However, it only took a few minutes to walk to the beach (since Boracay is quite small) and it meant we were closer to places like the supermarket, spas, etc. so it worked well for us. Actually, whenever we're in Boracay, we rarely did anything but walk.

It has a perfect balance of quiet and accessibility. Everything we could need is very close and its location has convenient access to the supermarkets, spas, restaurants and bars that make up the heart of the picturesque island paradise of Boracay. You can reach D’Mall in 3 minutes, White Beach in 5 minutes, and Bulabog Beach in 6 minutes. Check out the map;

To reach Ferra Hotel’s location, follow these instructions:

Take a domestic flight from Manila to Kalibo or Caticlan.
If coming from Kalibo International Airport, the more affordable option, ride a bus or van to Caticlan. Travel time is around 2 hours.
If landing at Caticlan Aiport, head to Caticlan Jetty Port by riding a tricycle.
Take a 20-minute boat ride from Caticlan Jetty Port to Cagban Jetty Port.
Ride a tricycle to the hotel.take short walks and you will find Ferra Hotel.

I was awaken by this little surprise. I was a bit tipsy from the cocktails we had at the roof deck bar to remember everything in detail but it was one of the best birthday surprises ever.

I was given this delicious and super moist chocolate cake with a huge fruit platter, while the staff of Ferra Hotel sang happy birthday for me. Though a bit tipsy, I was happy and I was smiling. It was truly overwhelming, in the best kind of way really - and I'm grateful for everything.

I realized why my cheeks had been hurting for the past few days. I'd been smiling too much! This birthday has been full of surprises. Thankful is an understatement. smile emoticon. Thanks to my husband and the whole staff of Ferra Hotel, my  birthday weekend turned out to be a lovely one filled with sweet surprises and warm gestures. And, to be surrounded by amazing people in a place like Ferra Hotel where all things are new and beautiful, made me realize that I'm not so old after all.

The hospitality and warmth of the staff and their dedication to guests really came through, making our stay a truly memorable one.

All in all, Ferra Hotel is indeed our friendly host in Boracay. What makes it a great host? For them, it’s not simply about providing a comfy bed and spacious room to spend the night in. It’s more about being that place their guests would love to wake up in, come home to, and possibly visit again in the future. Check out more photos here.

I already miss the salt air and the feeling of the sand under my feet. Above all, I miss the warmth of the staff at Ferra Hotel, our comfy bed, the delicious food and our lovely room. So here's a heed of warning to those intending to visit - once you check in, you may never want to check out!

Now that I’ve reached 34, I know some things will change. But even so, age won’t make me forget the child in me. I will still continue to make beautiful things happen and hopefully this year, I can share wonders to other people’s lives by sharing some good news.
