5 Reasons Why You Should Buy Richard Yap's First-Ever Recording Album

Some stars are born. Some stars are just plain lucky. And then, there are stars like Cebuano-Chinese Richard Yap or more popularly known as “Ser Chief” in the top-rating ABS-CBN noontime teleserye "Be Careful With My Heart," who has become one of the country’s most popular TV personalities. This despite the fact that he already declared that he is already in his 40s, and married with kids. And guess what? “Ser Chief”  is now a certified recording artist under Star Records.

Richard Yap recently launched his first ever album under Star Records, the record label of ABS-CBN Corp., which released his debut solo album.  Present during the album launch was Star Music Group head Roxy Liquigan.

During the recent grand album launching of his self-titled debut album that was held at Palacios de Maynila last Thursday, the proud Cebuano crooner shared details on his musical side and how he’s dealing with fame. He couldn’t believe he now has his own solo recording.

“It’s a dream come true for me. Ever since I was a little kid, I've always loved to sing," he said.  “I was already contented being an actor and doing TV commercials. Ngayon nadagdagan pa ng singer ang special skills and talent ko.”

Here are five reasons why you simply must own Ser Chief's album:

1. Because everyone adores Ser Chief.

Any 46-year-old who is willing to get up on stage and sing a heartwarming song is deserving of our adoration. Sure, a few of us (who aren’t crazy-in-the-head Ser Chief fans) wonder if Richard Yap could be one of those iconic performers who may or may not have made the cut on shows like The Voice Philippines, but that's irrelevant. It's time for a little Ser Chief love.

2. Because of its feel-good and easy-listening tracks.

Artists should invoke emotions and Richard Yap is very good at it. The album has 9 revival numbers that Ser Chief himself had selected with both English and Tagalog songs. It includes “Don’t Know What to Do, Don’t Know What to Say,” “Promise Ain’t Enough,” “Think I’m in Love Again,” “Can Find No Reason,” “You Take My Breath Away,” “Chasing Cars,” “High,” “Afterglow,” and a Chinese version of “Oh Babe.” The album also includes, as bonus tracks, the theme song of “Be Careful With My Heart” and the love theme “Salamat.”

3. Because for the debuting singer, every song is special to his heart.

"I put a lot of hard work in this album and I’m hoping that my fans will love it too," Richard said. The self-titled debut album is a dream come true for the 46-year-old star of “Be Careful With My Heart.”

4. Because Richard Yap knows what he's doing and he is not a "newbie"

He was once part of his high school Glee Club and performed numerous times locally and abroad for the promo of his hit morning program. He grew up listening to the songs of Queen, Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers, Hall and Oates, Phil Collins, and Mike Francis. For him, they are the classics.  I won't be surprised if the public will demand a concert soon. Be still our hearts! Hmm.. Excuse me while I pen a petition for us all to sign. To which I say, get out and buy his album, or you have no one to blame but yourself if Ser Chief doesn't go on concert tour soon.

5.  Because his voice and music speaks for itself.

His album is riddled with charm and intrigue, which is reason alone to buy it. After his live performance at the press conference last Thursday, Ser Chief hit the spot and I instantly became a fan. Ser Chief, you had me at "Don't know what to do, don't know what to say."

The point I’m making here is that each new albums  from new recording artists that have been proven worth shelving in stores and have achieved awards, despite of the obstacles the music industry is facing, proves that a true artist will always find a way to prosper. The music will speak for itself. I'm pretty sure Ser Chief's album speaks loud and clear. So just check out this gem and listen to his songs.

Have a listen to Ser Chief singing the song "Don’t Know What To Do, Don’t Know What To Say":

I’m usually against too much repetition, but in this case, the repetitive use of the line “Don’t Know What To Do, Don’t Know What To Say” is hypnotic. :) If this song doesn’t make you wanna melt, you should definitely get your pulse checked ASAP. It’ll make you wanna sigh, at least. Ser Chief's dreamy, Buble-like vocals give this song a very romantic feel.

Here’s the list of tracks on Richard Yap’s Self-Titled Debut Album:

Don’t Know What To Do, Don’t Know What To Say
Promise Ain’t Enough
Think I’m In Love Again
Can Find No Reason
You Take My Breath Away
Chasing Cars
High
Afterglow
Oh Babe (Chinese version)

Bonus Tracks:

Please Be Careful With My Heart
Salamat

Richard’s first album is now available at all record bars nationwide for only P250. Digital tracks can also be downloaded via Amazon.com, Mymusicstore.com.ph and iTunes.
