Alliance Select Launches Superfish Pacific Salmon to Philippines

There’s nothing better than a huge plate of premium quality Pacific salmon which is the best high-protein and low-fat choice that comes with plenty of Omega 3 healthy fatty acids. However, salmon has always been known as expensive. Despite its elitist image, have you ever wished salmon wasn't so expensive?

Good thing Big Glory Bay Salmon & Seafood Company Inc. (BGB), the leading international processor & distributor in the country and a fully owned subsidiary of Alliance Select Foods International (ASFI), changed the game by introducing the premium quality of salmon in the Philippine market, Superfish.

In a briefing held at Philippine Stock Exchange, Alliance Select President Jonathan Dee announced that the Superfish Pacific Salmon brand will be available in the market at very affordable prices. They aim to provide affordable luxury by changing the urban myth that one cannot buy salmon because it is perceived as expensive and elitist.
Mr. Jonathan Dee, The Alliance Select Foods International, Inc. President & Chief Executive, Madame Teresita Ladanga The Alliance Select Foods International, Inc. Executive Vice- President & Chief Operating Officer; Big Glory Bay President, and Mr. Juan Paolo M. Araneta, Big Glory Bay Sales Manager & Superfish Brand Manager.
"We have to look for that competitive advantage we had which is salmon. Salmon in Philippine retail is just too expensive. Being a new brand, it makes sense to democratize that. Our price is way below our competitors,” said Araneta.

Alliance Select manufactures, processes and exports tuna and salmon to US and different Asian countries like Japan, Hongkong, Singapore, and Korea. They have 9 operating companies in four countries. It has a salmon farm in New Zealand and a processing plant as well that accounts for one- third of the sales in New Zealand, and another salmon processing plant in Massachusetts, USA known for its salmon products innovation.

“We are thrilled to announce that BGB’s Pacific Salmon brand, Superfish, is now available here in the Philippines,” adds Paolo Araneta, Superfish Business Unit Head.

Superfish Pacific Salmon has been proven to have higher Omega-3 and protein content, as well as more vitamins and minerals than other fish. Every cut contains significantly lower fat and cholesterol content compared to other fish brands in the market today. They are not genetically modified, contain no additives, and have absolutely zero preservatives resulting in “sashimi grade,” export-quality salmon.

It's the first product marketed in the Philippines and it has been making waves in Philippine shores since December 2012. The Superfish brand is available in 33 branches last March, 32 of which are in Metro Manila and one in Nuvali, Sta. Rosa Laguna. They are planning to expand to a total of 50 branches in Cebu, Davao, General Santos City and areas in Luzon by the month of June.

During the media launch, different salmon dishes were served namely; Salmon Sashimi, Smoked salmon in dill sauce, Salmon Croquettes, Salmon Tartar in cones, Salmon Fillet Square Teriyaki, Smoked Salmon with vermicelli in light cream sauce, and smoked salmon & potato salad.

BGB’s state of the art plant in General Santos City processes 1,000 kilograms of salmon every day. The company chose General Santos because of the town’s seafood processing expertise including its support industries for the seafood sector. Despite of the energy crisis in General Santos City as well as the high power cost, they have plans for expansion of the current facility.

Dubbed as “the better fish,” Superfish Pacific salmon is affordable and accessible, making it a cut above the rest.  Priced way below the other competitors, Superfish Pacific salmon is hitting major supermarkets all over the metro including Superfish’s signature products, Frozen Fresh Raw Salmon Cuts in 100 gram packs (P99) available in loin fillet cut, belly fillet cut, and portion cut. For those looking for versatility, Superfish Pacific Salmon also comes in 130 gram canned premium smoked salmon (P125) and canned premium smoked salmon with olive oil (P135) which both professional and weekend chefs would enjoy using. Their frozen classic smoked salmon slices is available in 100 gram packs (P110) and 200 gram packs (P200).

Alliance Select is currently looking to offer other fish species that can be made available and sold affordably to the Philippine market.

Superfish is now available in leading supermarkets in Metro Manila including  Rustan’s Supermarkets, Robinson’s Supermarkets, all major Shopwise, Wellcome, Unimart, Makati Supermarket, and Cash & Carry , as well as SM North EDSA, SM Megamall, and SM Makati.
