What we bag, we become. Kipling just turned 25! Yay!
You might wonder why would a full-grown woman like me would carry a bag with a plush furry monkey dangling and hanging off it? Well, it's pretty simple. I'm a Kipling baby.
I believe Kipling makes exceedingly good bags and the quality is amazing. That's why there's a lot of fakes now, trying to imitate the original. So you would need to be a keen collector to be able to spot fake Kipling bags coming from China and Thailand.
Kipling bags come with dangling iconic monkey keychains usually in the form of plush furry monkeys that have names. You'll know it's fake by simply looking in the monkey's name tag position and its face. Fake China-made Kipling monkeys have their name tag sewn to their body while the originals have them sewn on the underside of the monkey's left arm. Oh and fakes have really visible and ugly stitching too!
Here's a quotable quote for you guys: "Love is like a Kipling bag. It's hard to find the real one." :)
So here's a stern reminder for you guys; please make sure sure to buy the original & genuine Kipling bag. Why? Because fakes have no warranty, product guarantee and breaks easily, usually after being used thrice.
I recently attended Kipling's 25th anniversary celebration wherein they showcased their biggest bag collection to mark Kipling’s 25th successful year in the global retail industry. Presented at the SM Mall of Asia Atrium, the event was deluged by bag enthusiasts who loved each piece of the collection.

Regarded as one of Belgium’s most iconic fashion pieces, Kipling was inspired by a number of renowned factors that give it its distinct edge.
"With a monkey discovered in Asia, an innovative nylon treatment from Europe, a bold attitude inspired by America and the name of an indisputable British legend, Kipling is without a doubt one of Belgium's most successful fashion exports," says Isabel Van den Broeck, marketing and communication director worldwide for Kipling.
"From new stores in Asia to the beaches of Brazil, we continue to create lifestyle essentials to brighten women's every moment, from working days to bright nights and special gatherings to chance encounters. Design at Kipling has stayed hectic and eclectic - and we wouldn't have it any other way," adds Van den Broeck. Kipling presented its Spring/Summer 2012 collection, which included bags from the Basic, Basic Travel, Sweet Me, My Valentine, Vintage, Gorilla Girlz, City, City Business, 25 Years, Back to School, and Working Life line. Each collection is perfectly designed to adapt to the lifestyles of today’s discerning women travelers who want no less than quality, functionality and style in their travel pieces. Kipling also prepared a number of cool games like Spot the Monkey, Kipling for Keeps and Pair It! plus loads of great prizes and surprises.
A highlight of the event was a fashion show that underscored the new collection’s brilliantly-colored Kipling bags. Kipling’s 25th anniversary celebration included teaming up with 8 artists of different nationalities for a special bag remix project with the motto: Play! Each image tells a story embracing Kipling’s spirit of being fun and clever using Kipling’s blue and red Classic bags---a statement that fashion is too fun to be taken seriously.

I wanted to replace what I lost, especially the bags (spend hours trying to pick the right ones ) . Came back home to Australia, do you think I could remember the name of the luggage , I have been to many bag shops asking, like a mad women if they sell bags that have a monkey hanging off it, only got strange looks. This morning I decided to google "bag with a monkey hanging off it" and WOW I found this post, now I know it was a Kipling Im going to start hunting yipee
ReplyDeleteaww I'm sorry to hear you were robbed. I know exactly how that feels. I got robbed too.. not once, not twice, but thrice. yikes! So I hope you don't feel bad. It's ok as long as you're safe and sound and you can always buy a new one. :) I'm glad the keywords in google helped hahaha Good luck with your bag hunting! :) Be safe.

ReplyDeleteHello. Ive just bougjt a kipling bag from zalora. And it came without a tag attched to it. Also the stitches on its front pocket are kinda off. But everything else looks good. Does zalora sells original kiplings? Their pricetags are the same @ local kipling stores
