Tips on How to Get Better Sleep

Getting a restful night’s sleep is very important for a person's health and wellbeing. In fact, we need sleep to survive and it's just as important as food and water.

  • There's nothing like waking up feeling totally refreshed in the morning and ready to tackle your next adventure after a full night’s rest. It can help you think more clearly, do better and be more productive in school and at work. It can also reduce stress and improve your mood. When it comes to life's greatest little pleasures, nothing can be compared to a good night’s sleep.

That being said, sleeping is a pleasure. However, sleep isn’t always a pleasurable experience for those people who do not get enough sleep and suffer from lack of sleep.

If you are one of them, I want to help you out a little bit by showing you a few sleep tips that might be most helpful. Hopefully, you'll sleep better if you do one or two of these things. Remember, you are not doomed of tossing and turning at night. You deserve a good night's sleep. So to help make you get better sleep, check out some of the tips below.

Set a sleep schedule

Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, including weekends. Be consistent in maintaining your sleep schedule and wake-up time. This can lead to long-term sleep quality and it helps set your body's internal clock. After several weeks, you may not even need an alarm to wake you up.

Invest in a Good Quality Mattress

study from National Center for Biotechnology Information shows that new bedding systems increased sleep quality and reduced back discomfort, factors that may be related to lessening of stress-related symptoms. Research also suggests that the surface you sleep on makes a difference in your comfort.

If you want to get to the root of your sleep troubles, check your mattress. Maybe it’s not the pillow’s fault that you ache in the morning. It could be your mattress that’s to blame!  There are mattresses that are thin, stiff, and uncomfortable which can cause sore backs and body pains. Some of them are even treated with harsh chemicals that can irritate your skin.  It only means that a new mattress is usually the fastest way to go.

Try a weighted blanket

Don’t overlook the blankets or comforters you’re using. A good weighted blanket can go a long way when you’re looking on ways on how to get comfortable sleep. This is one item that can promote better sleep. It's like an added layer of pressure over your body and help you sink into the bed. It's also helpful for those who get cold at night, and it can also help you retain heat. Restless sleepers have found that this is a great solution that helps them settle down for the night.

Use Blackout Curtains

Light can cause a significant sleep disturbance for more light-sensitive sleepers. You can use blackout curtains that will keep annoying light at bay to help you doze off more quickly. Its double-lined, tightly woven fabric is designed to block out light completely.  Not only will it darken your bedroom but it can also help ease your transition from day to night and improve your overall sleep qualityYou can also consider wearing a sleep mask as a way to control light disturbances. This would most likely be the least expensive way to make a positive change in your sleep.

Hopefully the tips above will help you sleep better. It's important to INVEST in your SLEEP and in your health. So don’t be a cheapskate and trust me, if you want to optimize your health, getting a good night’s sleep is one of the most important things you can do.
