The Last Time I Wore Classic Pieces, I Was 27 Years Old | Here’s How It Feels To Look Timeless 10 Years Later

Okay I confess...

I didn’t know what my style looked like for more than 30 years. I always pictured myself as a simple girl with wavy curls in a classic black dress, and my style is indeed a tale as old as time. I prefer to call my own sartorial taste timeless versus old-fashioned, classic rather than over the top.

Women, of course, have different taste and style, that's why I don’t compare notes with other women on their personal style, what they’ll wear and what they won’t. Sometimes, being different means being real, and it took me a long time to realize that being different was OK.

Regardless of what body you are born with, no force in this universe should stop you from wearing whatever your little heart desires. And that’s why I’m here, (tadah!) not to rant about the struggles of being a domesticated woman, but to express myself through these photos and encourage every woman to stick with their unique style and find the joys of expressing themselves.

Now, this is a 10-year-old classic polka dress that still fit and feel right today, paired with my fave white sneakers.

For modern moms like me, clothes are a way of expressing themselves. When you express yourself with the clothes you want to wear, you feel better, which is why I always try my best to keep my priceless pieces of clothing clean, fresh and vibrant.

Below, I take a look back at my favorite timeless looks that didn't involve a hamper of dirty clothes with my toddler inside it, chocolates or milk tea (Ok, maybe some of it) and a few tips on how to keep your cherished pieces looking fresh and new even after washing with a machine.

1. Zip your delicate clothes, your underwear or your socks, in a pillowcase or mesh wash bag to decrease the fluff or himulmol.  Instead of having your delicate underwear or lingerie ripped and torn into bits and pieces, invest in a few mesh wash bags that will help preserve the lifespan of your intimates.

Here's a timeless look that celebrates my blossoming form in a milk bath session. Pregnancy celebrates womanhood, and if you ask me, maternity photos have the power to make people happy. Seriously, there's a reason why Santa Claus and Buddha both have big bellies. Also, I'm obsessed with this seamless lace bra, so if you have seen it or see it again on me in any form of social media, don't say I didn't warn you. I literally could wear it everyday.  If you're not doing the first tip I've mentioned, then trust me, your fancy new lingerie won't last very long at all.

2. Turn your clothes inside-out before throwing them in the washing machine. That's because clothes with beading or embroidery can snag in the machine, causing damage. This is one of the useful laundry hacks that I've learned from Electrolux Philippines FashionCare Ambassador Rajo Laurel, in order to preserve the quality of designer clothes. The same goes for printed dresses, because turning them inside out will prevent the print from cracking or fading.

Here's an old Hollywood glam look that never looks old. There are hundreds of sequins on this red dress, which I wore at the EBloggers Ball 2018. I realized that sometimes, you just to need to be different in order to stand out. To be the red sequined dress in a sea of LBDs.

3.  Don’t dry clean often. For those of you who stay away from dry-cleaning because it's super expensive and you're so stingy or kuripot (*ahem*), you may be doing your clothes a big, big favor! Other than the huge cost of dry-cleaning, the use of harsh chemicals not only harm the fabric but the environment too! So it's a no-go for me.

4.  Invest in a good washing machine that loves and cares for your clothes as much as you do, and yes, this is a tip coming from a super stingy mom like me.

In case you missed, fully automatic Front Load Washing Machines are now a thing (A good thing!) and even though it can be more expensive, it tends to clean the best and will save you money on water and energy bills in the long run. They're also kindest to your delicate clothes and your back. Because, aging! No? Just me?

Oh, well. I know that many women still have trust issues when it comes to putting their clothes in washing machines because they think it might ruin them. But with the right washing machine, you can wear your timeless pieces even when the fashion trends has come and gone.

And of course, because our clothes (unfortunately) will not wash themselves, I think we can all admit that choosing the best model with innovative and new fabric care features will do just fine even if the label says hand wash only. It also saves more time than washing by hand.... or maybe that's just me and my laziness talking. *face palm*

Luckily, Electrolux is answering the call of the lazy and tired moms who are trapped for either time or motivation (or both!) by creating the "powerhouses" or the UltimateCare range of washing machines. Designed to help women care for their clothes, they also change the way women think about FashionCare, and even do laundry.

You can keep your favourites looking newer for longer with the game-changing technology of Electrolux washing machine that delivers deeper clean and better colour protection even in cold wash.

Here are some of the reasons why I love the Electrolux’s UltimateCare washing machine:
  • Cares for your clothes
It gives you less wrinkles after each wash and the innovative Vapour Refresh program is a quick cycle designed to refresh delicates without using detergent and the Woolmark certified cycle will safely launder precious woollens. The delicates program means you can safely wash delicate garments without risk of damage.
  • Removes allergens
Electrolux Vapour Care reduces allergens by up to 99.9% even at 40°C while taking care of your family’s well-being.
  • Saves time and energy
It's eco-friendly and reduces energy consumption by 75% while guaranteeing long lasting performance and silent operation.

The best part, of course, is for times that you forget to include items of clothing into the wash. Electrolux’s UltimateCare washing machine lets you pause and add missed items during the wash cycle. You can also put in hand-wash items during the rinsing process, saving precious time and energy that are better off spent with your loved ones.

The dream! To never have to worry about laundry again. Seriously, mumsh! There is a superhero in us all, and that requires us to wear a designer dress with a flowing cape back and a classic bateau-neck sheath. Electrolux’s UltimateCare washing machine is every supermom's secret weapon. You'll be amazed at how it can change your entire laundry routine for the better.

So, stick with Electrolux front load washing machines if you do decide to buy one for your fave clothes. They will thank you for your kindness, and I'm willing to bet my oldest pair of silk pajamas will remain in my closet for years after your newest piece of clothing has been thrown out.

Now, for my last and final look...

Is this real? Unclear.

I'm actually feeling great after wearing it.

I'm all about being plain and simple, but this soft light-as-air look sparked a revolution, in my unicorn filled mind, at least. And just because I'm a mom with two kids, doesn't mean I can no longer wear a tutu skirt and heels are out. There was a time when all I wanted to wear was this tulle skirt that actually takes up all the space it isn't supposed to occupy.

Speaking of space, this tulle skirt is my all time favorite look and will forever hold a place in my heart. And though my closet might not be ready for such kind of fabric, the Electrolux UltimateCare washer dryer definitely is. It's to-tulle-y awesome and with its game-changing technology, it will surely make your machine wash-sensitive clothes look their best, and last the longest. It doesn't matter how old you are, and it's never "tulle" late to try something new!

5. Fold your clothes ASAP to reduce wrinkles, and while you're at it, call your husband so he can finish the job for you. You're welcome. :)

6. Don't iron often. Excessive heat from ironing damages fibers, so less ironing means less harm to fabric.

The hack? Add Electrolux's Ultimate Care's Easy Iron option to Cottons or Mixed programs, which lowers the spin speed to decrease creasing. It can save time by preventing your clothes from wrinkling in the washing machine. In a few minutes, your clothes will be fresh and wrinkle free. Yay!

There's nothing like having timeless pieces that you could wear over and over again. It's beautiful, far better than chocolates and milk tea. Oh, and it makes me feel like I won't end up in a damaged and yellowed dress in 10 years.

I was 27 years old when I wore my favorite classic dress and am still in the search of my most timeless look, but I know am the closest to it now than I have ever been. After all, finding your own sense of style takes time, and also, tulles and sequins.

So, I'm looking forward to sharing more timeless looks, plus a real and never ending laundry love story with my new partner #ElectroluxRocks (that will soon have its own theme song and will take place in our very own laundry room) so that I, and every single person in our house, can strut and slay in style.
