#AlliedAgainstDengue: Calpol, Your Ally in Dengue Fever Management

I, like other moms, hate Dengue fever, and it sucks. When not treated properly, it can lead to death.

Let me be quite honest here... I panicked and I was batsh*t crazy when my daughter had fever that spiked to an all-time high of 39.1 and the rashes appeared. After a few blood tests and consultation with the doctor, it was diagnosed as Roseola Infantum.

I cried and prayed everyday, and I was lucky that it just turned out to be Roseola and not Dengue.
I'm also glad I was able to maintain my sanity throughout it all! Until now, I make it a point to always turn on the electric mosquito repellent.

I'm not a perfect mom, but there are things where I should make no mistake, especially my kids' health. That is why I always have a first aid kit complete with fever management tools at home. This is something every mom needs on hand. For pain and fever after my kids' vaccination, toothache, headache and muscle pain, I make no mistake with Paracetamol Calpol®.

Knowing that Dengue is potentially fatal, the thought of losing the people I love scares me. :'( Another thing that scares me is the insane number of Dengue cases in Baguio City and it's making me feel paranoid. Did you know that from January to December 2015, there was a total of 200,415 cases of Dengue fever in the Philippines, a 60+ increase in reported cases. You've probably been worried and assume you find it alarming. It's okay! Me, too.

It's also important to know that in cases like Dengue Fever, some medicines like aspirin and ibuprofen may aggravate gastritis or bleeding. Paracetamol like Calpol is the only medicine recommended for the treatment of fever related to Dengue.

On a different level, I also make it my responsibility to play a role by joining the Allied Against Dengue Movement, a campaign that will combine preventive and control measures with awareness of Dengue fever management. It was purposed to lead a change and create a bigger impact through collaborative partnerships, healthcare providers, industry and community empowerment and a holistic public education approach that combines prevention with management.

I believe that Dengue awareness is of utmost importance and being a mommy blogger, I encourage everyone to join the fight against dengue and do research on how to fight dengue as well as the awareness campaigns and their impact on the society.

I am a proud ally against Dengue and I believe that I can protect my loved ones by knowing more about this debilitating disease, its prevention and management. In cases of fever, (paracetamol) Calpol®  is my partner in providing effective, soothing fever relief because seriously, nothing works faster on fever than the Paracetamol in Calpol®.  Also, with God's grace, the sickness shall pass and you are assured of your child going back to his normal, playful self again in no time at all!

Just recently, GlaxoSmithKline, one of the world’s leading research-based pharmaceutical and healthcare companies and maker of doctor-recommended Paracetamol Calpol, launched its Allied Against Dengue campaign held at The Peninsula Manila. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) also announced about their uniting forces with other organizations in the Philippines to fight off Dengue including the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Pharmacists Association, Inc. (PPHA), Mercury Drug Corporation (MDC), Smart Parenting and CNN Philippines.

Allied Against Dengue Movement is focused on empowerment as it champions health campaigns that will combine preventive and control measures with awareness of dengue fever management.

Allied Against Dengue strategy includes:

Distribution of 50,000 DOH primers to at least 5 public schools in Dengue hotspots in Metro Manila
Distribution of 15,000 leaflets to 1,000 pediatricians and general practitioners.
Education of proper Dengue fever prevention and management to 20 health centers for Barangay outreach programs.
Implementation of Continues Pharmacy Education (CPE) Program in indentified chapters, targeting 200 pharmacists.
Education and recruitment of at least 1,000 Allies Against Dengue through employee engagment, online and on ground activations.

To make sure these milestones are achieved, Allied Against Dengue is rolling out initiative that includes train-the-trainer programs, organized information centers through partner networks, community education activations and employee volunteers. Let us all pledge and join the movement against the dengue virus.
