Unboxing and First Look: Asus Zenfone 2 Review

I was happy and contented with my smartphone.. then came my Asus Zenfone 2. My first thought was... WOW! Yes, this smartphone had me at "WOW" 'cause it really feels classy and it looks good too. Simple. Clean cut. Elegant. Classic. Now, my red hair matches my top, lips and my new phone. Obviously, it's kind of my favorite color.

Last week, I received the Asus Zenfone 2 and I realized I have the hottest phone on the planet with incredibly brilliant specs. Genius, really. It's a lovely Android phone full of customizations yet one that costs half the price of other similarly sized smartphones. But then I thought, since I've never had an Asus phone before, would it take a lot of time getting used to and, would it make my life easier?

And of course, a smartphone this awesome deserves an epic unboxing.

Just a sec...

Happiness is... unboxing my shiny new Asus Zenfone 2. Best part of unboxing it though was when it slid out and fell on the floor, I mean, on my hand. Initially, I had a bit of a problem with tinkering it as I'm a huge iPhone user.

Surprisingly, it only took a few minutes and I came to realize that setting it up was easy peasy. It just takes a bit of time getting used to. Now, I can honestly say that Asus Zenfone2 is the new black, but did it overshadow the features of my old smartphone? Well, my answer is absolutely yes!

Upon first glance, I fell in love with this baby and now, I honestly don't want to let it go. Like seriously. :)

Asus absolutely nailed the design. Some of the most alluring parts of this phone are its 5.5 inch display that is as big as the iPhone6 and LG G4 with specs that include an Intel processor and 4GB RAM! FYI, it's the world's first 4GB smartphone! It really deserves the title of "Monster Power" don't you think? There's an even cheaper model with a slower Intel chip and just 2GB of RAM.

The handset, in terms of design, is very sleek. It comes in 4 lovely colors and since I have the red one, I guess I got the fiercest of them all!

Less is more. I love the fact that it has 72% screen to body ratio with borderless design. It has a sleek, brushed-metal finish and concentric-circle detailing, and introduces new refinements, including a graceful curved case that tapers to an incredibly-thin 3.9mm at the edges. The exclusive Ergonomic Arc design provides a comfortable, secure grip, and features an intuitively-placed volume-control key on the rear of the phone within easy reach of the my index finger.

I love the look that is beautifully and precisely crafted, which includes the front, back and I mean everything. Besides looking stylish, it is packed with neat features and it provides me the most flexible and intuitive interface for a smartphone. Overall performance of the OS Android 5.0 Lollipop is simply amazing and user-friendly, as well as the ZenUI. It is simply awesome by making Asus Zenfone 2 works in a simpler way when it comes to customization and personalizing my phone.

I can keep myself connected with ZenLink that connects with any devices for seamless connectivity. It delivers the same functionality with other leading smartphones in the market, if not moreso. It did a great job of cramming ever-more exciting features into a good looking smartphone without losing any functionality.

I was praying for a smartphone with a 500% battery life and one that actually lasts longer than my usual sleeping time. That being said, Asus Zenfone 2 did not disappoint. It has above par battery life and it was certainly enough to get me through a full day or two after using some power hungry apps, camera and web browser, as well as some short calls, emails, and a handful of text messages. ZenFone 2 has a 3000mAh battery that provides more than enough power to get through the day, and it also features BoostMaster fast-charge technology for dramatically-reduced recharge times.

Its multimedia libraries are also organized pretty well. I've used many phones before, some great and some were just downright horrible but I am extremely pleased with my Asus Zenfone 2. Major. Needless to say, I love exploring new apps. Here are just some of the pre-loaded apps in Asus Zenfone 2.

With Asus Zenfone 2, I can SEE WHAT OTHERS CAN'T SEE. Need I say more?

Not that I'm obsessed but I just love this phone, it was really unexpected for me to see a shock of silver pleasure inside and the coolest bolts/screws I've ever seen which are not just there for aesthetic purposes, they're actually holding this phone together! It looks really cool and like what I've said before, nothing is cool for the sake of being cool and everything that looks cool about this baby is also extremely functional. It also has 5 Laser Direct Structuring Antennas, providing more stable signal reception and greater coverage for effortless video streaming and web browsing.

Another nifty feature is the dual microphone with noise cancellation for crystal clear sound which is something I've never heard of before and I'm loving it! It's simply amazing because I can talk freely anywhere, anytime.

Aside from using the Wi-Fi and having quick access on the internet at home or on any given hotspot, I also enjoyed taking photos and videos with this baby and, I kid you not, but I was really amazed on how surprisingly quick and hassle free it is to take selfies, upload pictures and videos to FB and YouTube compared to the tedious and looong process when uploading pics from my GoPro Hero cam and DSLR to my PC and finally uploading it to the social networking sites.

It has a camera that knows how to take astounding pictures with its 13MP PixelMaster Camera 2.0, zero shutter lag, f/2.0 Super Large Aperture for Low light and dual tone flash on its main camera, while the front camera has 5MP PixelMaster Camera 2.0 and 85 degrees wide angle lens for selfies. I also love the incredible Super HDR that captures clear photos of backlight objects.

Anyhoo, here are some of the photos that I took using my Asus Zenfone 2 :

It’s a pretty decent snapper, it takes pictures that are better than simple snaps with a dedicated shutter key and a more accessible digital zoom button to make it easier for me to take vain/selfie shots. LOL

I also like the real-time Beautification tools for even more glamorous me! :) No need to download apps like Camera360 because when using the Zenfone 2 front camera, it instantly switched to the Beautification mode! You can adjust your looks, balance features, soften complexions to create flawless photos in real time! Here's my first selfie using this phone;

It has the brand new ZenUI making it is so much fun and incredibly easy to customize my home screen. It is simply awesome by making it work in a more simple and natural way. I can easily personalize my phone according to my needs and make my own shortcuts. With only a simple finger flick away, I have instant access to my most commonly used websites, fave contacts, games, etc.

I am more afraid of leaving my phone unlocked than I am of losing it. So I'm really loving its great privacy feature, SnapView, which means your privacy is yours alone. SnapView gives you a private space where you can protect your personal apps, photos and files. For your eyes only.

Plus, it's a worthy phone that won’t break the bank and it comes with a strong price-to-performance ratio. Its impressive phone features, outstanding OS and the pre-loaded apps justifies its price.

Everything is best for something, and worst for something else. So the best for me may not be the best for others. But then again, I still believe that Asus Zenfone 2 is  one of the best smartphones I ever had. Simply because it's quite impressive and it has everything I need, with an incredibly good looking package plus a perfect blend of style, look and functions.

Of course, no smartphone is perfect, but this one is more outstanding than most. I don't get the occasional lag during web browsing or when I'm running a few apps all at the same time. That's why its very useful features became my BFF for the last few weeks.

Overall, the stunning new Zen-inspired design, features, and uncompromising performance of Asus Zenfone 2 makes it a big winner on my list. A pure power encased in sheer beauty and it has many things I can be proud of, not to mention years of bragging rights. I'm glad I'm one of the first lucky people to use it in the Philippines and I'm able to fully utilize and maximize its functionalities. Indeed, it is quite brilliant and it has exceeded my expectations.

Zenfone 2 will be available next week in all authorized resellers nationwide. For further information, like ASUS PH on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ASUSph or follow ASUS PH on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/ASUSph
