A Love Letter for my Daughter on her 7th Birthday

Seven years ago today, I was blessed with the biggest blessing of my life, my daughter, Maia. I still remember holding her for the first time and how her first breath took mine away.

I can't believe how much she has grown so beautifully. She is nowhere near the chubby, hairless baby who looked up to me with her big, brown eyes.

Today, a tall, thin little girl with long hair and scraped knees looks at me with the same big, brown eyes that make me smile every single time. My love for her is immeasurable, the kind of love that is impossible to put into words. Even if some people are so quick to judge, they're in NO position to judge what kind of mom I am & or should be! She may not be the chubby little baby that she used to be but I'm proud of how she has grown from a baby to a healthy, smart, well mannered and very loving little girl.

I want to take this moment to look at her, the child she is right this very minute. This child who would scold her parents for forgetting to pray and the one who always leads us in prayer each night.  The small girl who is passionate about her big dreams. The selfless little kid with a compassionate heart who secretly shares her baon with her classmates and compels her to share food when she sees some homeless kids in the street.

She was the biggest surprise of my life 7 years ago. And today, it's our turn to give her a big surprise. Ushering in her 7th birthday, we're giving her a surprise party tomorrow plus this love letter that is sealed with a kiss. How does that sound for a surprise?

Here's a letter for my baby girl on her 7th birthday and I hope that when she reads this, I'll get a big, fat kiss from her. :)

Dear babygirl/ Maiatot/ Maia,

I carried you in my womb for nine months. I felt sick for months, watched my feet swell and my skin stretch and tear. I struggled and got breathless to climb stairs. I suffered heart burns and had many sleepless nights. I loved you before you were even born. I went through excruciating pain to bring you into this world. I became your yaya, your nurse, your #1 fan, your teacher, your spa buddy, your playmate, and your BFF. For you, I can be anything.

We sacrificed many things to provide you with what you need, hoped the best for you and prayed for you to become a healthy, sincere, giving, disciplined and well-mannered kid. I'll sacrifice everything in me just to see you happy, and I'd rather live in a life of struggle to make sure you are where you need to be.

You wiped my tears and said "don't cry mommy" during the darkest hours of my life. You made me stronger. In your eyes, I could see exactly who I need to be. Without you, there is no me.

I love the way you go after everything in life with such flare and optimism. Who wouldn't want a lovely daughter like you?

Your laughter is contagious and your smile always makes me feel better when I'm sad. You are like a rainbow that makes my life even more colorful. You are a riot and you can be a bit moody, stubborn and shy at times but I wouldn't change a thing and I love you for all that you are.

Remember that I'm always here for you, to hold your hands, cheer you on, pick you up when you fall and watch you discover all that it means to be you. I will wipe your tears when someone tries to bully you. Will kick a** for you and I will be with you every step of the way.

Know that you have been blessed with parents who would do anything to see you succeed and find happiness. Your happiness is our happiness.

Know that it's a sincere "Yes" whenever you ask me if I'm proud of you. I'm the happiest and most satisfied mom because I have the sweetest daughter in the world.

I thank God for giving me the privilege to be your guidance, protector and above everything, your mom to love you unconditionally the way He loves us.

And though you just want a simple party in school, we want to give you the best party we could afford. With the joy and love you gave us, you deserve more. I may give you any gift you ask for, but it will never be enough compared to the present that you are to me.

Today, on your birthday, I have seven wishes for you.

First, I wish that today, your 7th birthday, is a day that you'll remember forever with a smile.

Second, I wish that such day keeps coming in every single day.

Third, I hope that God will always bless you with good health, happiness and fills your heart with more love.

Fourth, I hope that when you blow your candle, you'll count your blessings and friends, not the gifts that you will receive today.

Fifth, I hope and pray that you will always allow your wonderful self to shine, and you'll continue to touch the life of others the same way you have touched ours.

Sixth, it is my wish that your journey in life is always fun, colorful, safe and a memorable one.

Last but not the least, I hope you have a rocking, smashing and amazing birthday today. I promise that mom and dad will help you do that.

Happy birthday, baby girl. We love you.

Mommy

For moms like me, it's hard to think of what could be the best gift for your child. Imagine, you want to give them the best you can and the best is yourself. Our presence and our time would be the perfect gift.
