Party in the Clouds at 71 Gramercy

71 Gramercy effortlessly eased into my "Top Three Restaurants" with a delightful dining experience from start to finish. It is a New York-style bar slash lounge slash restaurant on the 71st floor of  Manila’s highest residential skyscraper, the Gramercy Residences. It's the highest club in Manila, brought to you buy some of the amazing guys behind Opus and Prive (Erik Cua, Tim Yap, Louie Ysmael, GP Reyes, Carlo Miguel) + Euric Lumanog (DJ Euric), Fabinho Ide, Carlo Trillo (Fiamma), Raj Sadhwani (Distillery / Draft / Imperial) and Raymond Gutierrez and is currently – as expected – the hottest new place in town.

The vibe and crowd were definitely great. Upscale but unpretentious, with good looking crowd. When I think of a top notch restaurant or upscale bar in Makati to celebrate an occasion: birthday, anniversary, parties, catch up dinner with friends, a date night, random Tuesday happy hour .. well, you get the picture.. I always end up thinking of 71 Gramercy.

The club has an inside lounge and bar area, a restaurant area as well as an outside roof deck terrace with full bar. This is a must visit place for those who wish to enjoy great dining experience with excellent view of Mega Manila. And just for that view, the visit is well worth it.

This place is artfully designed and lit by ambient, backlit, dim (read: flattering) lighting, and enough eye candy to feast your eyes on. Everything about 71 Gramercy screams class. It has a brilliant casual yet sophisticated setting in the classic bistro style.

Atmosphere here is dimly lit until 10-ish where it'll get really dim to prepare for the night crowd.  Oh, and the wine selection is not so bad either.

71 Gramercy has a full restaurant ran by award-winning chef, Carlo Miguel. So you can expect quality modern innovative gastronomic cuisine on the menu. The menu is flexible so you can have a modest meal or have a grand experience, as you wish.

I went there one evening with fellow foodies and was constantly reminded over and over of how awesome the duck sisig was. This dish is perfection. The fresh duck leg is tender with the foie gras and calamansi foam on top of roast garlic risotto. Order one. You won't regret it.

My favorite, 62° Egg, is  a slow-cooked egg with grilled asparagus, crisp prosciutto sourdough & parmesan. It mimicks the nature of an egg sitting on a nest. All you have to do is mix everything together, eat, and enjoy.

You just can't say no to these Fine de Claire oysters baked with garlic, spinach, parsley and butter. One word. Delicious.

The delicious Caprese salad with fresh, soft Buffalo mozzarella slices and vine-ripened tomatoes that tasted as if they were just picked, was topped with shredded basil and presented in a mixture of extra virgin olive oil.. the embodiment of summer.

Steak Tartare is delish! The hand-choppped US Angus beef tartare had frites and crostini- wonderful combination.  I'm not a huge fan of French food or raw food but their steak tartare is to die for, and hands down, one of the best around!

One bite into the Slow-roast pork belly and you get juicy pork and crispy pork skin all together. The seared scallops with cauliflower purée and salsa verde, add some balanced flavor to the whole thing. The crispy skin pork belly lives up to its billing and it has a crunchy top "crust" layer:

If you want something healthy, try the Chilean Sea Bass, rich melt-in-your mouth fish, tender, buttery with thick large flakes. The fish is cooked to perfection and topped with your choice of one of their signature sauces. There are 3 different sauces to choose from. Sauces Miso-Ponzu glaze is delicately balanced and packed with umami flavor, while Lemon Burre Blanc is a classic French lemon butter sauce. Salsa Verde is a delicious blend of fresh herbs, capers, shallots, lemon and extra virgin olive oil.

Oh, and what better way to celebrate a special occasion than with a nice slab of steak!

The steaks at 71 Gramercy are grain-fed and aged then broiled to seal in their juices. All their steaks are seasoned with sea salt and fresh cracked peppercorns, finished with a touch of butter and freshly chopped parsley.

For one, Tournedos Rossini's roast prime U.S angus beef tenderloin is delicious. Great piece of meat with delicious smoke flavor, with sautéed foie gras, potato galettes spinach and truffled jus.

Another must try is the US Pork Baby Back Ribs. Dry-rubbed and slow-cooked in their smoke box glazed with your choice of bourbon BBQ sauce or honey chipotle served with a fully loaded baked potato. The meat literately falls off the bone. So yeah. Get the ribs, hands down. That was definitely one of the best thing on our plates.  I also love that they have different sauces for us to try.

For sweet ending, try these yummy desserts:

Chocolate Fondant | P260Dark chocolate fondant with vanilla sauce and hazelnut ice cream  Cheesecake  | P280 New york style with vanilla bean and strawberry sauce

Banana Tartetatin  Caramelized banana tart with dark chocolate ice cream. It's like turon with a twist.

My favorite dessert at 71 Gramercy is the Mango and Passion Fruit Pavlova.  The desserts are generally lovely but this one is exceptionally yummy!

The cheesecake is nothing short of phenomenal. Loved it.
