It's More Fun in Cafe Lupe at the Park

Luneta Park. Rizal Park.

One of the reasons why it's more fun in the Philippines.

It is among the best places to visit in this part of Manila. Aside from the fact that it became a favorite meeting place for lovers and popular place for political or religious rallies as well, it's not exactly the same park as I remembered as a child. Actually, it has changed a lot since I last visited the place. It's much greener and peaceful; a huge sprawling park with well-kept lawns. Well preserved.

Glad I was invited by Ms. Jinkee to attend the The Road Trippers' Christmas party at the newly-opened resto, Cafe Lupe at the Park. I think this is just what the park needed to round out the options that are already there.

Right after our event at Quezon City Sports Club, I went straight to Luneta Park not knowing where to go because it's been ages since I went there. Going there was a breeze though. Unlike the The RoadTripper's Bacolod Trip last November where I trekked using my 4-inch-high wedge sandals, rode a habal-habal for a super bumpy joyride, was wiped out, had extra sore feet, and got DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) and that crazy welt of sorts on my tailbone, TRT's Christmas party is more relaxed and laid back. I enjoyed it as much as our visit to Melba's Farm at Bacolod City. #Goodtimes with The Road Trippers, a group of travel bloggers all united by a common love of, well, travel. At the end of the day, it's worth all the aches, pain, sore feet, and I wouldn't trade it ever. :)

Nestled in the middle of Luneta park, right next to the lagoon and  in front of the fountain which has totally been updated, Cafe Lupe is really a nice play to chill with a great atmosphere. I was quite taken by the setting and the scenic view of the park and the Dancing Fountain.

Cafe Lupe extended their branch here in Luneta Park which is a known resto in Antipolo City near Sumulong Highway that offered Mexican and Ilonggo dishes - a cuisine with a twist taste of Pinoy.  Since the place is newly open, food offered are also limited.

But the food was great and with reasonable price too. The booze, as well as the food, is fit for human (over)consumption. :)  We had bbq and tacos. They sell bbq for only Php20.00 and tacos for only Php60.00  There's something with the sauce that complements the meat. Whatever it is, it's spot on and it's really juicy and flavorful, even without the vinegar. Speaking of the sauce, I've never been a huge bbq sauce fan, but this is easily one of the best I've had in recent memory.  Their drinks are tied up with Asia Brewery so we had overflowing chilled beers, TI aka Tanduay Ice and Colt45.

Now THIS. A scenic spot. Truly mesmerizing. Indeed, you can enjoy some comfort food which leans more to a casual dining atmosphere in a nice setting with a fantastic view of the dancing fountain! At night, the dancing fountain comes alive with a laser show, set and synchronized to music, which is great to watch. Amazeballs!

Our server seemed to be nice and attentive and he was patient with us in having to come back a few times as we were too busy chatting, playing Pinoy Henyo and laughing the wholeeee time ('cause who doesn't like laughing?) We just stayed there and spent time ambling around all evening.

Pinoy Henyo: I swear I have never been so confused in my life. Sheesh.

If it wasn't for friends, (like TRTs), good food, and drinkin' booze, life would be boring. That said, The recipe for an awesome party is bbq, tacos, some booze, knowing all the lyrics, sight seeing and a bunch of great friends. Besides, what's the point of a Christmas party if there's no possibility of having fun or getting drunk?

I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a reasonably-priced place to enjoy good food and great ambiance with friends and family. It's definitely a great place to check out, as there is something for everyone.  Great for chillaxing, bonding or nightout with friends. Perfect for date night too. No wonder why the driver asked me if I'm going to Luneta for a date. Haha That being said, A date doesn't have to be over the top. Take her to the park, have a stroll or picnic. Then take pictures, chillax at Cafe Lupe, and sing your hearts out. Bliss.

However, like in any other park, it is always smart and safe to mind your surroundings and keep an eye on your belongings (and your children!) Make sure to stay within the safe and well-lit areas. On weekends, it is quite crowded though and much busier than weekdays. Also, it's best to bring your own thrash bags with you, so you can do your share in keeping Rizal Park clean and green.

Again, massive thanks to Ms. Jinkee Umali and Mr. Alvin Carranza, owner of Cafe Lupe, for the invite. Photo credits to my co-TRTs Ms. Jinkee Umali of http://livelifefullest.com, Sir Bong Aguilar of www.bongaguilar.com, and Ms. Aylin Vidad of Bubbly Fluffy.

  2. I have the same reaction when we went to Luneta Park on New Year's Day (2012), I didn't expect it to be as beautiful as that unlike when I was still a kid. It's really good to see that Philippines' tourists spots were being maintained, I hope they can do the same for Manila Zoo. :)
