Make brushing more fun with Minions!

Reality, like tooth decay, bites. Kids love candies but they hate brushing their teeth. Yep, the struggle is real but that doesn't mean we cannot discover fun ways to get our kids get into the habit of brushing their teeth.

Here are some tips on how to make brushing a fun activity for your tots:

1. Make sure your kids brush thrice a day and eat foods that are high in nutrition and low in sugar. After all, there is nothing as precious as a child’s smile.

2. Sing along and brush with your kids.

Kids love to imitate and by showing them how much you enjoy it, they will be more encouraged to brush their teeth by simply singing along with them. This will make brushing more fun for them, and what better way than to start them young and instill the values during their learning years. I  think it's super important to start brushing as soon as those first teeth come through. And because I grew up using Colgate, it became my trusted brand for my kid's toothbrush and toothpaste. To help get them into the habit of brushing 3x a day, I play my favorite Colgate ad while we sing the jingle,"Brush, brush, brush three times a day. Brush, brush, brush to keep the cavities away."

Have your child brush as long as the video plays. It has catchy lyrics and rhymes that make brushing not just a breeze but fun and educational too.

3. Make it a habit.

Once it becomes a part of their routine and your child is accustomed to it, brushing everyday becomes easier. Also, they are likely to continue this routine into adulthood. Plus, your child will not only grow up with a beautiful smile, but also with healthy oral habits that can last a lifetime.

4. Let them pick their toothpaste and toothbrush

I  like Colgate's kid-flavored toothpaste that makes brushing a more pleasant experience for kids, rather than the usual mint variety. Strawberry flavor is Maia's flavor of toothpaste, and she also likes the super cute design of Colgate toothbrush like these Minions.

Wondering where you can get these? You can get Colgate’s Minions toothbrush and toothpaste via Lazada:

Obviously, your kids won't get excited to brush their teeth by using a boring and plain toothbrush, but one she picked out herself and comes in her favorite cartoon character design. I bet that will surely get her making teeth brushing a habit.

Of course, a trip to the dentist at least twice a year ( minus the threat) is a must.

Yes, you heard right—no threat necessary. Or there's no need to make dental visit sounds like a punishment and shame, for that matter. Those things are not helpful to make the visit a success and will just make it more difficult for them. Take a trip to the dentist and tell them what to expect as well as the importance of doing so, instead of threatening them that they will have to see the dentist if they don't brush their teeth which can instill fear and anxiety.

Having said that, encouraging your kids to grow up understanding these things will both alleviate the cavity count and make a difference to Philippines’ oral health in general. However, if you haven't realized the importance of instilling good oral health habits in your children yet, I’m guessing one of these three things is true:

1) You're all set with your old and plain toothpaste brand and aren't looking to try other brands.
2) You are interested in what Colgate can do for your kid's teeth, but are just very busy right now.
3) You got attacked by an alien, and need me to call for help....
If it’s 2 or 3, I’m eager to help -- and I'm sure, Colgate too.

I'm sure your kids now have even more reasons to smile about as Colgate brings fun and good oral hygiene across the country.
